Bernice Swinney
Bernice (Bee) Swinney, 93, passed away on March 17, 2008, after a week’s hospitalization. She was born on March 16, 1915 at Bard, Wash.
Mrs. Swinney was retired after many years of working as a waitress in Lake Tahoe, Nev., and other areas.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Jim Horton Ely, Nev.; son and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Evelyn Phillips of Haymarket, Va.; several nieces and nephews; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her wishes were to be cremated and ashes sprinkled on the rushing water of a lake or river.
Hilda Hoff
Hilda (Jundt) Hoff, 81, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2008 after a short illness. She was the beloved wife for 60 years of the late Vernon Hoff. She joined Vernon in their eternal home 24 days after his passing.
Hilda was born on Feb. 1, 1927 in Eureka, S.D., to Maria Geist and John Jundt. She married Vernon on June 8, 1947 in Eureka, S.D. They moved to Elk Grove in 1950 to a small dairy farm, and then moved to Galt in 1952 where they continued dairy farming and lived there for the last 56 years.
Hilda was a homemaker specializing in delicious German cooking and baking. She was forever known for her famous German kuchen at bake sales. She was active in the Galt Assemblies of God church as missionary secretary, sang duets with her husband, and belonged to the Women’s Missionary Council. She worked as a church secretary for 11 years and a few years with the local Spaans Cookie Factory. She helped milk cows on the dairy, giving each cow a name.
Hilda loved her children and husband unconditionally, instilling moral values, fairness, forgiveness, love and an unwavering faith in God. “Mother” and “Grammy” will live in her family’s hearts forever.
Surviving are her five children, Susan Barfoot, Gary Hoff and Clyde Hoff of Galt, Carol Jacobs of Bremerton, Wash., and Tim Hoff of Klamath Falls, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Lisa Blount of Murrieta, Christina Lawrie and Misty Bell of Valley Springs, Jocelyn Hoff and Sharlyn Hoff of Galt, Jennifer Jacobs of Bremerton, Wash., and Dean Jacobs of Stockton; four great-grandchildren, Jackson Lawrie (5), Carson Blount (4), Caroline Blount (20 and Olivia Bell (1); and sister, Frieda Weisz of Aberdeen, S.D.
Her late brother, Otto Jundt of Eureka, S.D., predeceased her.
A memorial service was held March 25 at the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi.

Brian K. Coffey
Brian Keith Coffey, 49, of Galt died March 7, 2008 in Dameron Hospital in Stockton. He was born on Oct. 13, 1958 in Lodi.
Brian lived in Galt most of his life and attended Galt High School. He served in the Army from 1976 to 1980, and worked as a forklift driver in Stockton.
His mother and father, Lettie and Keith Coffey, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his brother, Steve (Anne Lee) Coffey; two nephews, Steve and Travis of Modesto; one daughter, Jean Coffey; and companion, Rachel Varon of Stockton.
Alternative Burial Services are in charge of arrangements. Graveside services will be at the Galt Cemetery on March 28 at 2 p.m.
Barbara Mueller
Barbara Lindberg Barkley Mueller, 73, of Galt passed away on March 23, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Sacramento following a seizure. She was born on Sept. 3, 1934 in Gilby, N.D., to Joseph and Thelma (Johnson) Lindberg.
Barbara married Donald Barkley in February 1955, and they had three children together, Cindy, Greg and Robert. They were later divorced. Barbara married Raymond Mueller in December 1975.
Barbara loved music, dancing, crafting, sewing and laughing. She loved to visit with people. She remained close to many of her cousins over the years. She was grateful for all the help and support of her neighbors. She was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Galt. Her family and friends will miss her.
Surviving Barbara are her husband, Raymond Mueller; mother, Thelma Lindberg; daughter, Cindy (Carey) Koepplin; sons, Greg (Janice) Barkley and Robert Barkley; brother, Roger (Lila) Lindberg; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ben) Eskelsen, Hailey (Jacob) Smith, Cassie Barkley and Anthony Barkley; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Jaren and Dylan Rose, and Alysson Smith; seven stepchildren and many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her father, Joseph Lindberg, and an infant brother, Joseph, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 28 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 604 E Street in Galt.
Viewing at Ben Salas Funeral home will take place on Thursday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
