Dolores Davies
- Dolores Davies
Dolores Davies of Acampo passed away in Lodi on Dec. 12, 2006 at the age of 91. She was born in Wallace on March 6, 1915 to Ed and Lillie Jones Miller.
Mrs. Davies was a native Californian, the granddaughter of Mary Miller Ferguson, who was born in Waterloo. She graduated from Calaveras High School in June 1933 and married Carl Davies on June 16, 1934 in Carson City, Nev.
She worked with her husband on their ranch in Acampo until he passed away in 1964. It was at this time that she sold the ranch. She enjoyed playing cards and cooking, but her greatest passion in life was her family, particularly her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Mrs. Davies is survived by two daughters, Norma (Gary) Hamrick of Acampo and Carolyn (Fred) Liebig of Galt; five grandchildren, Norman (Beverly) Liebig, Tammy (Tim) McGeorge, Julie (Eric) Duren, Terri (Allen) Elsholz, James (Marian) Hamrick; 10 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Christie, Kelli, Christopher, Tyler, Trevor, Michael, Michelle (Shawn), Brittany and Megan.
Her husband, Carl Davies, preceded her in death in 1964.
There is no visitation, and committal will be private at Glenview Cemetery.

Lloyd E. Meidinger
Lloyd E. Meidinger of Lodi passed away in Lodi on Dec. 20, 2006 at the age of 81. He was born in Ashley, N.D. on June 10, 1925 to Emil and Hulda Fye Meidinger.
Mr. Meidinger moved to this area in 1946, finally settling in Lodi in 1951. He moved to Galt in 1997 and eventually returned to Lodi. He worked as a butcher, having worked for Victor Brand Meats as well as Safeway for more than 50 years.
He enjoyed golfing, working with his gardening service after his retirement, and dancing the polka, but most importantly he loved to be with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, past member of the Dakota Club, Eagles, Moose Lodge, the Elks and a Partner for the Lodi Police Department.
He is survived by three daughters, Shirley (Steve) Gunn of Lodi, Diane (Dennis) Moresco of Stockton and Sandy Deutscher of Lodi; six grandchildren, Kim Halligan, Eddie Escobedo, Ryan Garrette, Dennis Deutscher, Laree Arreola and Krissy Knutson; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Rudolph and brother, Vernon Meidinger, both of North Dakota.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Lydia Meidinger in 1999; four brothers, Jackie, Virgil, Kenny and Norman Meidinger; and sister, Joyce.
A chapel service was held Tuesday at Lodi Funeral Home with committal following.
Memorial remembrances may be made to First Baptist Church, 267 N. Mills Ave., Lodi, CA 95240.

Dorothy Champlain
Dorothy Champlain (69) of Galt died Dec. 21, 2006 in Sacramento after a long illness. She was born Dorothy Starnes on April 1, 1937 in Missouri and moved here when she was 6 years old.
She was raised Pentecostal and had lived here for 60 years. She was employed as a hospital housekeeper and enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband and friends.
Surviving are her husband, Bob Champlain; three daughters, Glenda Thornburg, Dorothy (Bill) Archer and Bobbie Champlain, all of Galt; two sisters, Dessie Roper of Thornton and Carolyn Dick of Galt; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all from Galt.
Preceding her in death were sisters, Bertha Asher and Alice Braswell; brothers, Ed Starnes and Henry Starnes; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held Dec. 26 at Galt Cemetery. Ben Salas Funeral Home handled arrangements.

LeRoy Hessler
LeRoy Hessler (78), a long time resident of Lodi, passed away in Lodi on Dec. 22, 2006. He was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., on Sept. 14, 1928 to Peter D. and Eva Margheim Hessler.
Mr. Hessler served during WWII in the U.S. Army from 1944-1948. On Oct. 24, 1948, he married Elsie Foos. They moved to California in 1955.
Mr. Hessler was self-employed with Hesco Wood Products, a wood recycling company, and retired in 1986. He enjoyed woodworking and furniture, golfing, fishing and traveling. He was an avid Nebraska Corn Huskers football fan.
Mr. Hessler belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose in Lodi and the Elks Club. He enjoyed music, playing the accordion, dulcimer and guitar, but his greatest love was his family, particularly his children and grandchildren. His beloved family and friends will miss him.
Surviving him are his wife of 58 years, Elsie Hessler of Lodi; three daughters, Cheryl (Danny) Lund of Sacramento, Denese (John) Kozina of Stockton and Wendy (Dennis) Clark of Valley Springs; seven grandchildren, Lee Lund, Andrea Garcia, Matthew Kozina, Lindsey Kozina, Timothy Kozina, Bryan Clark and Allison Clark; three great-grandsons, Alexander, Hendrik and Jaret; four sisters, Dorothy Kauffman of Galt, Darlene Johannes of Gering, Neb., Eleanor Austin of Sutherland, Neb., and Loretta Kenyon of Escondido.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Rueben Hessler, many years ago; and by his beloved dog, Kobe, on July 22, 2004.
Friends are invited to visit Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., and Thursday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. Committal will immediately follow.

Frances “Babe” Wing
Frances “Babe” Wing (89) died Dec. 25, 2006 at her home in Galt. She was born Aug. 12, 1917 in Oroville to Charles and Lucile Cox, both long time residents of Galt.
Babe was a retired cosmetologist and jack-of-all-trades. She traveled around the United States for eight years in her motor home. Babe held the position of Pamona at the Valley Oaks Grange until her demise.
In 1965, she was cook aboard the ship “The Seasong,” boarding the ship in Seattle and traveling up the coast into Alaska, then back down through the Panama Canal. She was proud and excited that the captain let her take the ship through the Panama Canal locks.
Babe enjoyed attending city council meetings and was interested in the city’s growth and beautification. Before moving from Lincoln Way, Babe could be seen walking to Polly’s Café every morning, where the Polly Café counter group discussed the city of Galt.
Surviving her are daughter, Tammy Morgan-Sullivan and son-in-law, Charles Sullivan; son, Donald Emery Wantz and wife Miriam Wantz; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ben Salas Funeral Home.
Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at Ben
