Betty Florence Moore Brown Cruz succumbed to complications of cancer on Dec. 7, 2006 in Dixon. At the time of death, she was surrounded by four generations of her family.
She was born Dec. 14, 1928 at Indian Mission, Auberry, Calif. She lived most of her life in the Woodland, Davis and Sacramento area.
She left behind five children, daughters Linda Hernandez of Dixon, Marsha Jinapuck of Fresno, Velda Little of Woodland and Delores Corral of Stockton; son, Tony Corral of Stockton. Son Frank Brown, Jr. preceded her in death in 1998. She was devoted to her 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren.
She was a devout Jehovah Witness always reminding the young ones to read the Bible. She was a full-blooded Mono Indian and was extremely proud of her American Indian heritage. She wanted the family to always remember their native culture. She retired from the University of California at Davis after 15 years in the housekeeping department.
Services will be graveside with interment immediately following on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. at Hicksville off Highway 99 at Arno Road. Pastor Joe Mijia will officiate. A traditional Indian ceremony will follow. Immediately following, a potluck dinner will be served at 881 Olive Canyon Drive in Galt.
